Meet Marie Barbon, RN – Candidate for Burien City Council, Position 3

Marie Barbon is a mother, wife, longtime pediatric nurse, Human Services Commission Chair, and 16-year resident of Burien running for City Council to bring compassionate, common-sense leadership to a city at a crossroads. With a career dedicated to the health and well-being of children and families, Marie has witnessed firsthand the devastating impact active addiction has had on her community including accidental overdoses among youth with tragic, sometimes fatal outcomes. She believes it’s time for change and is committed to building a safer, healthier Burien for everyone.

Marie brings both frontline experience and civic dedication to the table. She serves as Chair of Burien’s Human Services Commission and is an active member of the Parks and Recreation Board, as well as a neighborhood Block Watch Co-Captain. Through this work, she’s seen what truly moves the needle: smart investments in public safety, housing access, and community programs that actually work not failed policies or political posturing.

Professionally, Marie has over two decades of experience as a Registered Nurse, with much of her work at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She has stepped up in times of crisis to serve as interim manager, supporting care teams and improving operations across departments. Her hands on healthcare expertise makes her a compassionate problem solver who understands how systems must work together to deliver real results.

Marie is running for Burien City Council to fight for affordability, safety, and sustainable growth. She knows that many Burien residents especially low-income families and seniors are being priced out. Rather than raising taxes, she believes in growing the city’s resources by supporting local businesses and attracting economic development. Marie will be a voice of reason at City Hall someone who listens, leads with empathy, and never backs down when her community is at stake.
